چکیده

Ants are one of the most abundant insect groups in citrus orchards. They help controlling pests, but they can also facilitate outbreak other such as those that produce honeydew. Moreover, ants affect natural enemies pests. Here, we review how pest abundance, considering whether produces honeydew and it spends part its life-cycle soil (edaphic stages). We investigated effects presence on with a meta-analysis this effect is modified by production pest, ant species, specialization mode dispersal (winged or wingless) enemy. The decreased abundance non-honeydew producing increased producers. pests without edaphic stages, stages. In addition, identity species affected enemies; Iridomyrmex rufoniger Lasius grandis had negative impact whereas did not enemies. generalist winged honeydew-producing Our provides crucial information biological control practices orchards, increases our understanding relationships between ants, their

Seasonal occurrence of key arthropod pests and associated natural enemies in Alabama Satsuma citrus.

Six Alabama Satsuma mandarin orchards (four conventionally sprayed and two unsprayed) were surveyed during 2005 and 2006 to determine the population dynamics of arthropod pests and their natural enemies. Twenty-eight arthropod pest species were encountered; the major foliage pests were citrus whitefly, Dialeurodes citri (Ashmead); purple scale, Lepidosaphes beckii (Newman); Glover scale, L. glo...

Seasonality of major cabbage pests and incidence of their natural enemies in Central Kenya

The population dynamics of major brassica pests and occurrence of their natural enemies were monitored weekly for a period of 9 months on cabbage (var. Copenhagen Market) at a research station plot (no pesticides applied) and a farmer’s field (weekly application of Permethrin 10 EC or Dimethoate 40 EC) in Central Kenya. Pest infestations occurred within 14 days after the seedlings were transpla...

Bt crops benefit natural enemies to control non-target pests

Crops producing insecticidal crystal (Cry) proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) control important lepidopteran pests. However, pests such as aphids not susceptible to Cry proteins may require other integrated pest management (IPM) tactics, including biological control. We fed aphids on Bt and non-Bt plants and analyzed the Bt protein residue in aphids and compared the effects of Bt plants ...
